Top Asian golfers join Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open
Top golf players from around Asia have signed up for the US$1.2 million Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open that will make its return to the Indonesian capital from February 14-17.
At least 88 players from around Asia have been listed for the tournament that will be held at the Cengkareng Golf Club in Jakarta, inclding the Philippines’ Juvic Pagunsan and Franki Miñoza; Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat and Thaworn Wiratchant; and India’s Jeev Singh and Arjun Atwal; among others.
Asian Tour’s Executive Chairman, Kyi Hla Han is confident that this event will bring world-class golf action to fans all over the region and contribute significantly to the promotion of sports tourism in Indonesia.
“The Asian Tour players are delighted to return to play in the 2008 edition of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta, at the Cengkareng Golf Club. The venue hosted the inaugural Indonesia Open in 2005 and we are confident of the international standards which will be adhered to ensure that the tournament will be one of resounding success,” said Han.
Keith Waters, Director of International Policy for the European Tour also believes that a successful staging of the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open will give the country a major boost in positioning itself as one of the top golfing destinations in the region.
“Indonesia is continuing to grow in stature as a golf destination and, by hosting both The European and Asian Tours at the Cengkareng Golf Club, will continue to develop,” said Waters.
“It is great news to be returning to the Cengkareng Golf Club for next year’s Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open. The fact that the Cengkareng Golf Club has hosted the tournament in the past will ensure a superb 2008 edition of the tournament,” added John Eu, Chief Executive Officer of tournament promoters GlobalOne.
