Johnnie Walker Classic: Australia’s Unho Park seizes early halfway lead in 2nd round

Australia’s Unho Park found some spark in his game to seize the early halfway lead at the Johnnie Walker Classic on Friday as compatriot and world number five Adam Scott stayed within striking reach.

Park, an Asian Tour regular searching for his maiden victory, credited his superb run at the DLF Golf and Country Club to Vijay Singh, saying he watched the big Fijian at the practice range earlier in the week and picked up a valuable tip.

The Singapore-based Park leads by one stroke from India’s Jyoti Randhawa, who charged into contention with a blistering 65 and Japan’s Taichiro Kiyota, who carded a 67.

Scott, winner of the Johnnie Walker Classic in Beijing in 2005, produced a second straight 68 to lie two off the pace in the US$2.5 million event.

It was the lesser-known Park who grabbed the spotlight by charging through the field with his 10-under-par 134 total. After missing the cut at last week’s SAIL Open which left his game and confidence in tatters, Park picked up a good tip by watching Singh play.
