Golf and Manny Pacquiao
Golf is one of the sports discipline that do not favor the player’s height or body built but his skills and mental abilities. That was what former Amateur Champion and Philippine living golf Legend Luis Silverio.
That very well explains why Asians have carved their names in the leaderboard of golf scorecards world wide for years. You don’t have to be as tall as Yao Ming or as muscled as Mike Tyson to beat other players in this game. In golf, your skills and mind set matter a lot.
And that is also true in boxing, where players (regardless of nationalities) are paired based on weight categories. No wonder a lot of Asians have also reaped boxing championship belts around the world.
Take for instance Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who at first glance you will not suspect as a sports man because he is short and with small built. But in his category, he has proven to be the best in the ring, crashing opponents after opponents from the different parts of the globe.
Asian countries should therefor promote and develop golf and boxing and encourage more centers for children so they can be exposed to the games early. We can’t be champions in swimming, track and field, basketball, and other sports, but we can very well play golf and boxing.
