PHILIPPINES – Singapore’s Quincy Queck outclassed defending champion Ferdie Aunzo on the sixth playoff hole to capture the WWWExpress-DHL National Amateur Golf Championships Friday at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Canlubang, Laguna, Philippines.

Quincy QuekQuek set up the win with a superb approach to within four feet to birdie the 18th after Aunzo bungled his own birdie try from 20 feet on a day of high drama.

“It was a very exhausting game. Patience allowed me to win this one,” said the 21-year-old Quek, who is a member of the Singaporean team that ruled the Putra Cup last year.

Singapore also won the team competition on Thursday by five shots against the Philippines after posting 433 in a three-to-play, two-to-count, 54-hole team competition.

Quek and Aunzo, a shot behind overnight leader Jerome Ng of Singapore, each carded a 70 in the final round to force a playoff with identical 287.

In the Ladies Division, Chihiro Ikeda secured her second straight 54-hole ladies’ title with a runaway 11-shot victory over reigning national champion Anya Tanpinco. The 17-year-old Ikeda carded a 71 for a three-day total of 220.
