Cebu is the traveler’s fantasy of a tropical island come true - balmy weather, pristine beaches, crystalline waters, and luxurious resorts with all the frills of modern living. The island-province of Cebu was where the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan planted the Cross of Christianity in the name of Spain in 1521. Spaniard Sergio Garcia defeated Oliver Wilson of England in a play-off to win the HSBC Champions on Monday. Garcia birdied the second extra-hole at Sheshan International Golf Club to win the US$5 million event.

The in-form Arjun Atwal of India, the winner of this year’s Malaysian Open, will be looking to complete a Cross-Straits double when he competes in the US$5 million Barclays Singapore Open from November 13-16.
Atwal, the first player from his country to earn a US PGA Tour card in 2003 and a recent winner on the Nationwide Tour, is playing the big end-of-season events in the region in a bid to win the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit for the second time.

India’s Arjun Atwal secured his maiden victory in the United States after winning the Chattanooga Classic on Sunday which virtually sealed his return onto the US PGA Tour next season.
The 2003 Asian Tour number one birdied the first hole of a sudden-death shoot-out to prevail over Webb Simpson in the Nationwide Tour event and the winner’s cheque of US$90,000 pushed him up from 34th to 15th on the money list.

A total of 18 Asian Tour members are featuring prominently in the top-200 of the latest Official World Golf Ranking.
 
New Zealander Mark Brown, who currently leads the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit following two wins this season, tops the membership with his 62nd position on the list.
 
India’s Jyoti Randhawa is eight rungs below Brown at 74th place followed by England’s Simon Dyson in 78th position and Jeev Milkha Singh of India, Asia’s number one in 2006, in 80th place.

Professional golfer Trip Isenhour is facing charges for killing a hawk with a golf shot while he was taping an episode of his TV show “Shoot Like A Pro”.
A report from the Associated Press said animal rights group Humane Society of the United States urged the PGA Tour to take action against Isenhour in relation to the case the group filed against the pro golfer.
