Team Japan and Korea kept up the Asian challenge with battling second rounds at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup on Friday and insisted it was not an impossible mission to catch the leader, Spain.

Japan, represented by Ryuji Imada and Toru Taniguchi, carded a four-under-par 68 in the foursomes for seventh place, seven shots off the lead, while Korean duo Bae Sang-moon and Kim Kyung-tae enjoyed a superb back nine 32 for a 70 to lie in ninth position at Mission Hills Golf Club. Spain rallied Friday from the fifth spot to clinch the second round leadership of the $5.5 million Omega Mission Hills Golf World Cup with a 17 under par aggregate 127 on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills in China.

Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez and Pablo Larrazabal overtook overnight leader Germany by 4 shots and left defending champion Scotland scrambling on the 19th spot.

Defending champion Scotland arrived on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills in China with a mission - to repeat the scene of the country’s moment of triumph a year ago when it bagged the much-coveted Omega Mission Hills Golf World Cup.

Colin Montgomerie joins forces with 32 year old Alastair Forsyth, who played in the World Cup between 2002 and 2004 but partners the eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner for the first time in the second edition of the Omega Mission Hills World Cup. (Click on title to read full story)

Team Germany rallied past other countries to lead the first round of the $5.5 million Omega Mission Hills Golf World Cup with a 10 under par 62 on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills in China.

Germany’s Martin Kaymer and Alex Cejka showed they were seriously looking at the Omega Mission Hills Cup after finishing the day with a 10 under, leaving defending champion scotland settling for the 17th place.

Golfers from 28 countries will putt it out on the green starting Thursday for the much-coveted $5.5 million Omega Mission Hills World Golf Cup on the Olazábal Course at Mission Hills in China.
The 28 teams who will have the honour of representing their countries have now been confirmed, with the host nation represented by Liang Wen-chong and Zhang Lian-wei.

The global economic crunch has forced automaker General Motors to cut back on costs and decided to end its multi-million endorsement partnership with golf living legend Tiger Woods.
With the official end of the partnership, Woods will no longer be carrying the golf bag that has the Buick logo on it. The GM endorsement deal, believed to be worth at least $7 million a year, was to expire at the end of 2009.

PGA Tour veteran Tommy Armour III holed a 36-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the 37th annual Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational, grabbing the cup from Scott Simpson and Brock MacKenzie.

Scotland, having waited 54 years to savour World Cup success, will return to the scene of the country’s moment of triumph 12 months ago when Colin Montgomerie and his new partner, Alastair Forsyth, attempt to defend the Omega Mission Hills World Cup from November 27 to 30.

For Montgomerie, victory arrived at his ninth attempt, just a year after he and Marc Warren had lost in an agonising play-off with Sweden and eventual champions Germany in Barbados.

Chinese Taipei’s Lin Wen-tang lifted the UBS Hong Kong Open title after a thrilling play-off win over Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and Italy’s Francesco Molinari on Sunday.
Lin nailed an accurate approach shot in the second-play-off hole which left the ball within inches of the hole for a tap-in birdie and the win at the Hong Kong Golf Club.
